If you’ve been following me on Instagram or TikTok you’ll have seen me making crochet stars as a form of comfort crochet as I had a cold.
If you missed it you can see it on Instagram here (ker-riiinge)
At the time of writing this there are three weeks to go until Christmas and of course Christmas stars are everywhere!
How to use your crochet star
I’m intending to decorate my presents with a single crochet star that my friends and family can use to decorate their trees next year.
But of course a crochet star doesn’t just have to be for Christmas! Create them in any bright colour you like and add them to birthday gifts or string them together to make bunting for a kids room.
For this pattern I’ve used DK yarn and a 3mm hook but imagine what they’d look like if you used super chunky yarn and a 12mm hook! Hmmm I just might have to do that!

Magic Circle
To create a magic circle: CH 4, SS to the first chain to create a circle, continue with the rest of the pattern working your stitches around the chains of the magic circle.
Puff Stitch
With the puff stitch you’ll want to pull each loop up to be slightly taller than a normal stitch, this will help to give them bounce.
Yarn over, insert hook into the magic circle, yarn over and pull up a tall loop (3 loops on your hook), yarn over, insert your hook into the magic circle, yarn over and pull up a tall loop (5 loops on your hook), yarn over, insert your hook into the magic circle, yarn over and pull up a tall loop (7 loops on your hook), yarn over and carefully pull through all loops on your hook, CH 1 to complete the stitch.
Picot
CH3, DC into the back of the previous stitch.
Pattern
R1. Create a MC, to create first puff stitch CH 3 (counts as the first pull up loop), (YO, insert MC, YO and pull up a tall loop) twice, YO, pull through all loops on your hook, CH1 to complete the stitch, PS, *CH 2, PS 2*, Repeat * to * 3 more times, SS to the top of the CH3 from the first puff stitch to join.
