Do you struggle with gift ideas for crafty people?  As a crafter and a maker, one thing I have noticed is that people are scared of buying me craft related gifts.  With Mother’s Day in the UK being just around the corner it got me thinking – just what do you give to a crafty Mum?

What is she into?

It should be easy right? You’ve seen the evidence around her house and you’ve probably received a handmade gift from her at some point.  You should already have some idea of what craft she’s into.   But if you’re still not entirely sure, ask her, I’m willing to bet she’ll be more than happy to tell you all about her craft (and drop a few present ideas in along the way).

Stash!

Once you know what she’s into, buy some of the basic supplies.  Believe me when I tell you – you can NEVER have enough stash!  Whatever she is into be it yarn, fabric, felt, glitter, glue, papers, paint, planners, you name it, she will always welcome more!

“you can NEVER have enough stash!”

Ok I agree, buying stash can be extremely difficult: what type; what colour; how much???  so why not go for the next best thing – vouchers from her favourite shop or any shop that sells stash for her craft because you know what that means?….. SHOPPING!!!!   There is nothing a crafter loves more that being able to shop for more stash and if she’s got vouchers it’ll be GUILT-FREE shopping!

Kits

Kits – yes, I’ll put that out there.  When looking for gift ideas for crafty people kits should not be overlooked, they’re not just for beginner crafters.  Unless your Mum has only recently taken up a craft, then it’s quite likely that she will be an advanced maker.  Therefore, go for a kit that compliments her craft.  Ok, so let’s say she’s into sewing or quilting, maybe buy her a fabric printing kit;  or if she’s into knitting or crochet get her a weaving kit.  Not only will it add to the variety of items she can make, it could possibly open up a whole new avenue of crafting she’s not thought of before.

What if your crafty Mum enjoys LOTS of crafts?  Then ask her if there’s anything she hasn’t tried yet – chances are she’ll mention the craft that is next on her crafty radar – perfect! You can’t go wrong.

Make it yourself

Yes you heard me, make your Mum a present!  As a crafter / maker your Mum already knows and appreciates the value of a handmade gift.  Besides, Mum’s love and keep everything their kids make, including the glittery Christmas decorations you made when you were six! I know I do!

So what should you make her?  Weeell, that all depends on what crafts you like.  Why not buy one of the kits mentioned above, make it and give her the finished article? Go on, she’ll love it!

I hope you’ve enjoyed looking through this list of gift ideas, if you have any more suggestions add them to the comments below.

Happy crafting/shopping
