This is my first scrapbook layout post of 2022…. I’m sure you were probably expecting a Christmas or a winter theme for my first page of the year but this photo has been calling to me for quite a while…
Its a photo of me and my son after we’ve been caving at Cheddar Gorge whilst on holiday. I’d saved all year for the holiday and I paid the little bit extra to have a proper ‘tour’ of the caves. There was a group of us with the youngest being about 10 so the caving wasn’t all that dangerous
I used papers from my stash – Basic Grey’s Periphery collection. The main background was the Syrah sheet, then I used a square from the Vineyard sheet. There are alot of natural elements in the photo and I felt the torn edges reflected that a bit better than a straight, clean-cut edge.
The main lettering of the title was from another Basic Grey collection but I can’t remember which one I’m afraid!
I used some red rivet/brads to encircle some of the title to pick up the colour and shape of the helmets we’re holding. I wanted more of the red and I also wanted to pick up the yellow from our belts so I used some plain red and yellow scraps of card to create some flags in the top left corner.
As we were so filthy I used brown metallic rub-ons to make the flags look dirty. I tore some thin strips and used a white pen I bought at Paperchase to write “in Cheddar Gorge” then tore the strips to separate the individual words. I added the year in the bottom right hand corner.
Scrapbook Sketch
Here’s the scrapbook sketch for this layout, it is quite minimal but that just means you can go wild with patterned paper. Choose coordinating papers and it will look great!
I was quite pleased with the way it turned out and although I haven’t added any journalling to this layout I might add some at a later date.
I’d love to see your scrapbook layouts using this sketch tag me into your Instagram posts @gorgeouscrafts
