10 mm hook
Scissors
Stitch Markers (I also have a selection from Cats Whiskers Cro Store and Joy to the Wool Co.)
Tapestry Needle
Yarnsmiths Create (100% Acrylic  Yarn – Super Chunky / #6 / Super Bulky; 80m / 87.5 yards per 100g):

• 3 skeins of Parchment (MC) (300 m / 341 yards);
• 2 skeins of Copper (CC) (160 m / 174 yards)

I recommend any two contrasting solid colours. But you can swap one for a multi-coloured, variegated yarn.

Gauge

9 sts and 5 rows = 10cm/4in worked across the pattern.

Unblocked Sizing

222cm / 87.5in circumference x 21cm / 8.3in wide

Pattern Notes

• To increase/decrease the circumference of the infinity scarf change the number of foundation stitches by multiples of 8 plus 1.
• Change colours using your preferred method
• The 3 ch at the start of a row counts as a st.
• For the cluster spike stitch rows, work slowly and keep your tension loose to avoid squashing the rows underneath. You may find it helpful to work on a flat surface.

How to Read The Pattern

When in the instructions you have a number followed by a stitch, eg 14 dc, this means you have to work 1dc into each of the next 14 sts.

Instructions in brackets (….) or square brackets […] are worked as many times as indicated.

Special Stitches – UK Terms

Invisible join: At the end of each round, remove hook from loop, insert hook under both loops of beg st from back to front, place loop back on hook and pull through st. Using new colour, yo and 1 ch. Tighten all loops, drop previous colour to wrong side. You can find a tutorial here.

Foundation cord: Reserve a tail that is approx 2.5 times the length of cord you want to create (see pattern for measurements), make a slip knot with the working end of the  yarn and insert your hook. *Wrap the tail yarn over the hook from front to back (two loops on your hook), yo with the working yarn and pull through both loops on your hook to create 1 st; Rep from * as many times as indicated to create your foundation cord.

Foundation cord in the round: When working in the round, once you have completed all the required sts,
and ensuring that your work is not twisted, bring the first st in the cord around to the front of your work and work an invisible join following the instructions below.

Cluster Spike Stitch: This stitch actually consists of 4 rows, three in the main colour with the last row creating the wonderful textured stitch in the contrasting colour. Rows 2 to 5 of the pattern make up the full instructions for the Cluster Spike
Stitch but I’ve included a photo tutorial of the Cluster Spike round below.

The Cluster Spike Stitch is also known as the Extreme Drop Leaf Stitch or in some cases simple the Leaf Stitch as it produces a leaf like pattern. Each of the spikes should be worked into a 1-ch sp created in the three previous rows.

The number of 1-ch sps created in those three rows varies from pattern to pattern, some of which are not used. In this pattern only the 1-ch sps that will contain a spike will be created.

Follow the pattern instructions for rnds 1 to 4 and your work should look like this:

For rnd 5, once you have joined your new colour and worked the first dc and the 3 ch you’ll then start to work the cluster spike stitch.

You’ll be pulling up long stitches so you’ll need to keep your tension very loose, you may find it easier to work on a flat surface so that you don’t squash the previous three rows.

1) Yarn over and and insert your hook into the first 1-ch sp in the round below, yo and pull up a long loop to the height of the current row, yo and insert your hook into the same 1-ch sp, yo and pull up a long loop (5 loops on your hook). 2) yo, insert your hook into the first 1-ch sp two rounds down, yo and pull up a long loop, yo, insert your hook into the same 1-ch sp, yo and pull up a long loop (9 loops on your hook). 3) yo, insert your hook into the 1-ch sp three rounds down, yo and pull up a long loop, yo,
insert your hook into the same 1-ch sp, yo and pull up a long loop (13 loops on your hook). 4) repeat step 2 in the second 1-ch sp two rounds down (17 loops on your hook).

5) repeat step 1 in the second 1- ch sp from the round below (21 loops on your hook). 6) yo and pull
through all loops on your hook. 7) 1 ch to close the cluster. 8) 3 ch and dc into the next stitch which sits above the second 1 ch-sp of the previous round.

Free Written Pattern – UK terms

First Section

For this project you’ll always work on the right side. Create your foundation stitches:

Rnd 1: Using MC, reserve a 5.55m/ 219in tail and work 48 (168) sts of foundation cord, invisible join being careful not to twist your work. 168 sts

Second Section

Rotate your work so that you are now working into the underside of the foundation sts from rnd 1.
